Eligibility Guidelines

LCSSU has developed a set of guidelines for use when eligibility decisions are considered. These guidelines reflect the use of data collected from Student Interventions Plans.

* When evaluation is completed without collecting response to intervention (RtI) data, the traditional models for disability/eligibility identification must be utilized. For example, there must be the determination that a discrepancy exists between ability and achievement when considering a Specific Learning Disability through use of standardized testing.

When utilizing intervention information, the following factors must be considered prior to an evaluation:

1. Resolution of the identified problem must be resistant to general education interventions, implemented with integrity, and documented on student intervention plans.
OR
2. The team agrees, and it is well documented, that all general education supports have been exhausted and that further intervention requires the use of special education supports.
