The Parent as Advocate

A Child’s Best Advocate is the Parent

When a parent learns that their child has been found eligible for special education services, they are introduced into what many have aptly called “the special education maze.” We all know that parenting by itself is difficult enough. Now you are also expected to become one member of a team of educators that will develop an individualized education plan for your child. Federal studies have shown that most parents of children with special needs spend their energy and emotions on other problems related to their child and accept whatever they are offered by their public school system. LCSSU wants to assist you in educating yourself in order to provide you the resources needed so you can become your child’s best advocate and a confident team member in the special education maze.
